How to choose a reminder app for Android
Every reminder app promises the same thing on its store page. The differences only show up after a week of use, and almost all of them come down to a handful of practical questions.

1. Do notifications arrive when the app is closed?
This is the one that matters most and the one least often tested. Some apps only alert you while they are running or while the phone is not in a power-saving mode — in other words, they fail exactly when you need them.
On Android, aggressive battery optimisation from some manufacturers can block alerts entirely. A well-built app says so plainly and shows you which setting to change.
2. Do repeats really repeat?
Daily and weekly repeats are easy. The useful ones are the awkward ones: every two months, every six months, every year, the third weekday of the month.
If an app cannot express your actual schedule, you end up recreating reminders by hand — and the ones you forget to recreate are the ones you miss.
3. Can you attach the thing the reminder is about?
A reminder that says 'renew the policy' without the policy attached sends you looking for paperwork. Being able to photograph a document, a bill or a receipt and keep it with the date turns a nudge into something you can act on immediately.
4. Can you use it without handing over your life?
Ask what the app requires before it will work: an account, contact access, bank access, location. A reminder app needs very little of that.
